Billing increments Each call is measured in basic units called billing increments. Billing increments are occasionally called "per minute rounding." Most billing increments are one minute, although some cards will measure in two- or three-minute increments. International calling cards may charge in six-minute billing increments, so if you make a seven-minute call, your card will be rounded up to the next increment and you will be charged for 12 minutes. I’m using calling cards for over a year, mostly to call southeast Asia, there is not a better deal on the market now, and I have tried other companies but they do not deliver what they promised especially regarding their real cost per minute and other hidden fees. With calling cards, like Super Clean and Boss, I get what I pay for. Strongly recommend calling cards. I have been using calling cards for many years and since I discovered Mega Clean and Stable about six months ago I have never been happier especially since I call Thailand twice a day and talk for two to three hours. Thank you M-CandS for the clarity of my calls and the money you have saved me. The main line may be made of fiber-optics, co-ax, or copper wires. They all do basically the same thing, but some are ever more efficient and easier to obtain than others. The big box at the junction of the phone lines is powered or activated, and contains digitizers. It is here that your call joins the mainstream or multiplexed line ending in your local switch and the fiber-optic national network. So, your phone lines work much like your neighborhood streets emptying onto a large highway: like roads, there are smaller pathways or cables, that join up at a major intersection to meet with your national network or pathway, which connects you to the rest of the country, and the world. However, in 1906, private inventor Dr. Lee De Forest invented the three-element vacuum tube known as the audion. This device allowed a long distance phone signal to be amplified. The patent was purchased six years after its invention by AT&T in 1912. Once AT&T purchased the patent, they devised a way to increase the vacuum of the audion chamber and lessened the quantity of internal gases, allowing the device to be used even more effectively for international long distance telephony. This invention spurred the progress of coast-to-coast long distance until on June 17, 1914, the last pole went up in Wendover, Utah, linking the lines originating on the West Coast and the East, enabling the first transcontinental telephone call, which was not made until January 25, 1915. This momentous event was delayed so long so that it would coincide with the exposition that was to be held in San Francisco that year celebrating the end of construction on the Panama Canal.
